An early Saturday start of the third round

The Saturday round starts at 7:10. All of the players begin their game at the first hole and as it is common for the weekend days there are two players in each flight. The only exception due to the odd number of players is Scott Drumond who is the first one to start, accompanied by his caddy and the referee. The greatest star of this year´s Tournament, Miguel Angel Jimenéz starts at 11:45 and at 13:20 leaves the last flight with Petr Hanson and Fredrik Widmark. Discussions with players in Public Village The signing of players as well as the informal discussion with them led by the golf expert Vít Kaďousek achieved a great success amongst audience. The first ones to share their experience with the tournament were the Thursday´s round leader Shiv Kapur, domestic player Stanislav Matuš and Slovakian professional Peter Švailen. In a relaxed atmosphere players were spontaneously answering questions coming both from audience and Mr Kaďousek himself. At the end of the event players signed T-shirts supplied by Vodafone and distributed those amongst the audience. Similar meeting took place with other players, also attended by the former amateur number one player Tommy Fleetwood as well as Chilean Felipe Aquilar and the youngest European Tour participant in history Petr Gál. This trio of players was replaced by Viktor Skalle who was fighting all day to meet cut and eventually lost due to missed short put on the 17th hole. Apparently, he was not able to hide his great sadness and discussed all of the key moments of today´s round with the audience. It was one single shot that was between him and the greatest success in the history of the Czech golf. In the upcoming days you can enjoy similar meetings with players. The discussion on Saturday, followed by signing of players starts at 18:00 at Public Village. We hope you come and join us and we are looking forward to all of your questions.

You can watch the montage of the first round on our official website

We have just put into operation Czech Open TV on our official website where you can watch a montage from yesterday´s first round of the tournament. Besides others you can see how little distance was Miguele Angela Jiméneze from hole in one on the third hole. Visit our website to find out more.

Evening programme with the players in Public Village

As part of the Friday´s GOLFest in Public Village you can enjoy the signing of the international players that takes place at 5 o´clock followed by broadcasting of last year´s tournament montage. At 6 o´clock you can come and see the discussion with the players led by a golf expert, Vít Kaďousek. The last bit of the program is the evening music performance by Happy Dog and Apatheia. There is a lot for you to look forward to. We would be pleased if you stay after the end of the Friday´s round.

Čeladná suits to Swedish players

Friday afternoon is in the name of Swedish attack on the front positions. Shiva Kapur, the winner from Thursday´s round is closely followed by Fredrik Anderson Hed and Peter Hanson. Last year, Oskar Henningsson said that the local nature and the location of the course remind him of Sweden. That might be truth since there are other Swedish players who enjoy the game in a relaxed mood. An English talent, Tommy Fleetwood who plays his first tournament since joining the professionals is successfully going up the scorecard after yesterday´s weak round where he scored +3. If he does not make any significant mistakes, he is likely to play over the weekend and with his obvious talent the question is what position he gains after Sunday´s final. The cut boundaries are currently above +1 and with today´s weather we can not anticipate that it would be lower than +2. Closest to the weekend rounds are Viktor Skalle +2, Lukáš Tintěra +3 and amateur Martin Příhoda +3. The biggest star of the tournament Miguel Angel Jiménez starts from the first tee at 12:50.

The latest forecast right from Čeladná

The official meteorologist of the European Tour, Guy Nestor, has some great news for us. The bad weather which Čeladna had at the beginning of the season is forgotten. The forecast for the following days is simple – all clear!!

First round report

Shiv Kapur fired six successive birdies to set the standard in the first round of the Czech Open 2010 but Peter Hanson is just one stroke back as the Swede tries to strengthen his Ryder Cup aspirations. Kapur made his burst from the second to seventh holes to establish gain the early initiative at Prosper Golf Resort in Čeladná and, although he began the back nine with two bogeys in a row, birdies on the 16th and 18th helped him card a six under par 66 to set the pace. “I was six under through my first seven holes so it would have been nice to have added some birdies on the back nine. But golfers are never happy,” said Kapur. “The course is fantastic and the greens are absolutely brilliant. They are rolling beautifully in spite of the rain. “I've never grown up on courses like this - I did on flat courses - but it suits my game as it is not a course that rewards long hitters.” The 28 year old Indian, who lost in a play-off to Richie Ramsay in the South African Open Championship earlier this season, boasts a one shot cushion over Argentinean Tano Goya, whose 67 included six birdies and a bogey, and Ryder Cup hopeful Hanson. The latter, who requested an invite from the promoters to play the tournament after a strong showing in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, is hoping to continue his good start as he looks to move into the automatic Ryder Cup places before the end of the qualification campaign next week. “That is just what I needed to do - to get off to a good start this week,” he said. “I know why I'm here this week and what I have to do, so five under was a good start. “I thought I played nicely all day and kept it in play off the tee and gave myself some chances with putts. At five under it felt pretty easy today. “I asked the organisers here to help me out with a late invite and I managed to get one so I really have to thank the Czech open for that. “I just want to try to give myself a chance of getting on that team.” Goya continued his own affinity with Prosper Golf Resort after leading in the first round last year, while England’s Richard Bland shares third spot on four under par with Frenchman Julien Guerrier. Five players were a shot further back: Australian Rick Kulacz’s 69 featured an eagle on the par five seventh, while José Manuel Lara, Scott Hend, Richard Finch and Clodomiro Carranza remain well placed after a largely profitable first day. Ireland’s Peter Lawrie bogeyed the 18th to slip to two under par, one of 15 players who shot 70s. Simon Dyson was among them, like Hanson having shaken off jet lag to boost his own Ryder Cup hopes with four closing birdies. On Sunday the Englishman shared 12th place in the US PGA Championship, then flew back from Chicago on Monday night, caught another flight to Prague and took a train to Ostrava. Dyson is 16th in the race for a place in the European Ryder Cup Team with only one week to go, and is keen to build on a promising first round. “I played the pro-am yesterday and was shattered, but I got a good night's sleep," he said. “If I can get a couples of top threes or a win you never know. It was great to finish that way." Dyson played with compatriot Ross McGowan, who at 11th in the standings needs a top four finish this week or in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles next week to book his Ryder Cup spot. But McGowan - playing through the pain of a shoulder injury - started with a seven on the long 10th and, after climbing back to one under, finished with another double bogey and had to settle for a one over 73. “I'm playing fairly well when my shoulder is not giving me grief," he said. "I’ll take a few painkillers and hope for the best. “I’ve trapped a nerve and I have sharp pain on the downswing so I’m not sure where the ball is going to go.” Spain's Miguel Angel Jiménez, eighth on the points table but not playing next week, posted a 71 on the course he co-designed, while 2008 Ryder Cup team-mate Oliver Wilson, still in with an outside chance of retaining his place, shot a level par 72. Jiménez said: “It’s not much of an advantage knowing the course as people practice a couple of days and get to know it. “The course is very true and you can see everything. You need to hit it straight to be able to hit the pins as the greens are very fast. That is the key.”

Downpour of birdies to start the tournament

Literally rocket entry into the tournament Czech Open 2010 was played by a twenty-eight year old Indian player Shiv Kapur. From the second to the seventh hole Kapur performed a series of six birdies in a row and thus ideally benefited from the local windless weather. For many unknown player, made his name on the Asian Tour where after coming over to professionals in 2005 Kapur gained the Rockie of the Year title. Kapur currently holds a hundredth position in the Race to Dubai and is a 256th player in the world rankings. We shall see whether he is capable of maintaining this fantastic pace and who else is going to join him.

Ceremonial tee shot managed by Jiménez

Miguel Angel Jiménez was the one who in solemn flight together with Stanislav Prose, Ales Buksa and Alex Flanagan handled the first ceremonial shot of this year´s Open United 2010. This event took place at the opening evening for players and selected guests on the terrace of Celadna golf club. All of the present players and guests were greeted by the tournament promoter Alex Flanagan. “I am glad that we were able to meet again this year here in Celadna at Czech Open 2010”, he says. “I believe that all of us will enjoy this year´s tournament”. Jiménez´s shot launched this year´s Czech Open 2010 that has attracted a number of well known names in its starting field. Miguel Angel Jiménez is not only a player but also a designer of the local golf resort. If Jiménez wins this year´s tournament, he becomes the second player in the history of the European PGA Tour that has ever won on his “own” course. The only player-designer that has ever won on his own course is José María Olazábal (Mallorca Classic 2005, Pula Golf Club). Last year´s winner, Oskar Henningsson, who passed all of the three qualification stages for the European PGA Tour in 2008, is also present at the tournament. This was a unique performance in terms of the European professional competition which was crowded by his victory in Celadna in 2009. There will be a number of other Ryder Cup representatives participating in the Czech Open 2010 - Oliver Wilson, Soren Hansen and Thomas Levet. Still struggling for participation in this year's Ryder Cup are Ross McGowan (11th), Peter Hanson (15) and Simon Dyson (16). Another excellent player is English Nick Dougherty who won last year in Munich and gained his third European PGA Tour title. The very same tournament won Niclas Fasth three years ago who wishes to add to his six titles from European series another one. Amongst the candidates that have a chance to gain a crystal goblet Czech Open 2010 are a few other great players - Ignacio Garrido, Shane Lowry and Graeme Storm. So the Czech Open 2010 will be very well occupied tournament.

Tuesday practice

Prosper Golf Celadna woke up to a beautiful sunny day. The entire resort was busy since early morning hours. All of the best European professionals have arrived and today is the day of the first official training. Unfortunately, there have been some minor problems within the Czech team. Amongst those players not participating in the tournament is also Czech representative Marek Nový. “I was not feeling well yesterday”, says the Czech professional. “I had a fever this morning and had to take some medicine. Currently, I am waiting for the local doctor to tell me what drugs I am allowed to take. Hopefully, I will feel better by Thursday.” The one who has not missed his training round was Stanislav Matuš. “I am trying to fine-tune some details before Thursday”, says player from Celadna. “I hope to succeed in front of the domestic audience which means I have to pass the cut into the final rounds.” Problems were surrounding another Czech player, Ondřej Lieser, who is also included in the Czech Open 2010 roster. Lieser discovered that his set of golf clubs is not compatible with the European PGA Tour regulations and is currently waiting for a different set that should be delivered on Wednesday. “It is going to be interesting,” smiles the young Czech representative. “I will only have several hours to try these new golf clubs and then I start the competitive round straight away.” Lieser was not the only one who had problems with equipment. “I was surprised that my clubs did not pass the testing,” says surprised Jiří Štryncl. “I am glad that my caddy has his clubs with him and those are very similar to mine.” Another Czech professional joined the tournament site today – Petr Skopový who was enjoying time with his newly born child. “I wanted to stay with my family as long as possible,” smiles Skopový. “However Ondra Lébl and me arranged a common training round this morning. Even though I know the local course I want to get used to it a little bit more and enjoy the local atmosphere.”

Weekend transformations – resort images

Despite some occasional showers the weekend weather was favourable and the Prosper Golf Resort team managed to prepare both resort facilities and the golf course for the upcoming training rounds as planned. Take a look at our picture gallery to see the record of the weekend events.

Martin Kaymer won the PGA Championship - the next stop is Celadna

The winner of this year´s last tournament Major is known. German player Martin Kaymer scored the first major title of his career and followed his predecessor Bernhard Langer. From now on, the eyes of European and world golf are looking towards Celadna. In less than a week we will know the winner of Czech Open 2010.

Find accommodation in Celadna is virtually impossible. We have the last rooms available!

Just a day before the beginning of the practice rounds when first players are arriving, the accommodation facilities in and around Celadna are almost completely occupied. Once we have accommodated the major tournament partners and our VIP quests, we are now able to offer several rooms for favourable prices. Last Czech name in the entry list – Ondřej Lieser

The very last Czech name in the entry list of the upcoming Czech Open 2010 in Prosper Golf Resort is Ondřej Lieser. The Golf and Spa Kunětická Hora player joined the PGA Tour due to his placement at the International Championship of the Czech Republic in Marienbad. Originally, it was David Procházka who should have participated in the Czech Open since he was fourth at the International Championship, ahead of fifth Lieser. Procházka however gave up his place in favour of Ondřej Lieser. The Czech representative Ondřej Lieser has had an extraordinary season. He won the first tournament Czech Golf Amateur Tour in Kunětická Hora and then he played a record score - 64 shots! He was also close to success at the recent International Championship in Austria where a fatal error on the seventh hole stopped him from gaining a medal position. In the International Championship of the Czech Republic in Marienbad Lieser finished fifth, as the second best of the Czech players. “It is going to be a great experience for me”, Lieser was pleased by his participation in the 2010 united Open. “I am looking forward to come to Čeladná”. Even though I feel a little bit tired after the Championships but after some rest I intend to start the training round on Tuesday. I cannot wait...” Names of all the amateur players starting in the United Open 2010 are the following: Philip Mrůzek, Martin Prihoda, James Švarc, John Fish, Andrew Lieser and Peter Gaal, Jr. The Czech professional boards: Viktor skall, Peter Mutton, Ondrej Lebl, Mark New, Martin Rudecký, Lukas Tintera, George Štryncl, Robert Schovánek, Stanislav Matus and Peter Winter. There will be 16 Czech players in the starting field, all of whom meet the tournament promoter, Alex Flanagen on Monday evening. The official picture of the entire Czech team together with the tournament cup will be taken on this occasion.
